Charles Cohen Joins Leydig, Voit & Mayer
July 2008CHICAGO, July 2008 – Charles S. Cohen, formerly the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Molex Incorporated, a multi-billion dollar global manufacturer of electrical and fiber optic interconnect products and systems, joins Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Ltd., a full-service intellectual property law firm, as resident Counsel in its Chicago office. Possessing more than twenty years’ experience in the field of intellectual property law, he will concentrate his practice on several aspects of patent law, including client counseling, opinions, technology-focused transactions, as well as patent preparation and prosecution.
While at Molex, Mr. Cohen’s practice encompassed a wide variety of domestic and international intellectual property issues including developing and implementing strategies and procedures regarding Molex’s worldwide intellectual property protection, portfolio management, licensing, standards committees, and litigation with a significant focus on Asia Pacific markets. In addition to his work in Molex’s Intellectual Property department, Mr. Cohen also spent four years in Molex’s New Ventures and Acquisitions department evaluating, structuring, and negotiating various technology-focused transactions including acquisitions, investments, licenses and joint ventures.
Mr. Cohen is admitted to the Illinois State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Cohen received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1985, and a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1982. He also completed extensive coursework in electrical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
