Eight New Associates Join Leydig Voit & Mayer

Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Ltd., a full-service intellectual property law firm, is pleased to announce that eight new associates have joined the firm. The new associates are:

Anthony R. Friedman received a B.S. in Biological Sciences, with honors, from the University of Missouri and a J.D., cum laude, from Washington University. Before joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, he worked as an intern for Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, where he focused on administrative appeals and civil rights matters. In this position, he drafted several briefs that won favorable on-the-record decisions from Administrative Law Judges. He also has served as a deputy circuit clerk with the Circuit Court of St. Louis County. Mr. Friedman was a summer associate with the firm in 2008.

Kate M. Lesciotto joins the firm with a B.S. in Zoology and Biological Sciences, summa cum laude, from Colorado State University, and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to pursuing a career in law, she worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Bacterial Zoonoses Branch. Having worked as a summer associate with the firm in both 2007 and 2008, she will focus on patent prosecution and litigation in the fields of biotechnology and the pharmaceutical arts.

Nimita L. Parekh received a B.S. in Political Science, summa cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Before joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, she served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Justice Maureen O’Connor, The Supreme Court of Ohio. Ms. Parekh has also worked as a parliamentary intern for Solicitor General, Harriet Harman MP, in the House of Commons, in London. Having worked as a summer associate with the firm in 2008, she has a particular interest in trademark prosecution and related litigation.

Jonathan M. Spenner completed his J.D. at Fordham University School of Law while working for the firm as a technical advisor focused in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and chemistry. He has experience in managing international patent portfolios for both large pharmaceutical companies and small biotechnology companies. He received a B.A. in Biological Sciences, cum laude, from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Jonathan B. Thielbar received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a J.D. from Washington University. Before joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, he worked as a judicial extern for The Honorable Allen Goldberg, Circuit Court of Cook County, in Chicago. Having worked as a summer associate with the firm in 2008, he will assist with patent prosecution and litigation in the mechanical arts.

Jessica M. Tyrus, a former 2007 and 2008 summer associate, joins the firm with a B.S. in Chemistry, summa cum laude, from Benedictine University and a J.D., with high honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Prior to joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, she served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Martin C. Ashman, United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. She also worked as an undergraduate laboratory intern at Argonne National Laboratory.

David Van Buskirk received a B.A. in Biochemistry, summa cum laude, from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas. Before joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, he worked for several years in the biotechnology industry. His experience includes the performance of quality control assays on biological drug products, the synthesis of custom oligonucleotides, and the administration of an extensive library of chemical compounds. He was a summer associate with the firm in 2008.

Marc R. Wezowski joins the firm with a B.S. in Biology, with honors, cum laude, and a M.S. in Biology, with distinction, from Loyola University. He received a J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School. Prior to joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, he worked in research at Northwestern University’s Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Mr. Wezowski has experience as an associate in Federal Signal Corporation’s legal department. He also has taught in the University of Michigan’s Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. A former 2008 summer associate with the firm, he will assist with patent litigation and prosecution in the fields of biotechnology and the chemical arts.
