Thomas D. Paulius
Counsel
Mr. Paulius counsels clients on patent, trademark and copyright matters. His practice includes assessment of patents, trademarks and copyrights; prosecution of design patents, utility patents, both domestic and international, trademarks and copyrights; validity and infringement studies; and litigation, primarily with an emphasis on opinions and design and utility patent prosecution. He focuses his practice on electrical and mechanical technologies, and he has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the fields of electrical connectors, agricultural machinery, wastewater and sewage treatment pumps, retaining rings and springs, injection molding components, food processing machinery, and food chemistry. He has experience in patent and trademark litigation involving agricultural machinery, marine biofouling prevention systems, consumer products, and product configurations.
Prior to law school, Mr. Paulius was employed as a construction engineer in the nuclear power plant industry. Drawing on this experience, he has represented architects, engineering and construction firms and municipalities in patent related matters. In the area of copyrights, he has represented freelance photographers in agreements with publications and universities.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Paulius worked for an electrical connector manufacturer, training patent engineers, developing successful patent prosecution strategies, and managing division patent portfolios.
