Salim A. Hasan

Mr. Hasan practices entirely in the field of intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on patents, trade secrets, and unfair competition matters. He has worked in all aspects of litigation in Federal Courts for such matters, including discovery, motion practice, hearings, expert discovery, pre-trial practice, and trial presentation. He also has assisted clients with developing and implementing programs and procedures to protect confidential, proprietary, and trade secret information.
Mr. Hasan has extensive experience and an active practice in patent preparation and prosecution in the chemical and mechanical arts in the U.S. and foreign countries. He counsels clients with respect to patent portfolio management and strategies, licensing, opinions, and freedom to operate. In addition, he is experienced in patent interference practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and has worked on opposition proceedings in the European Patent Office. Among the technologies in which he has recent experience are: pharmaceuticals, medical devices, specialty chemicals, coatings, plastics, pollution control devices, filtration systems, propellants, cosmetics, and various building materials.
Mr. Hasan joined Leydig, Voit & Mayer in 1998 after practicing in Indianapolis, Indiana and currently serves on the firm’s Professional Development Committee. He has been an adjunct professor of law in the area of patent prosecution at DePaul College of Law.
