Richard M. Bemben

Mr. Bemben focuses his practice on intellectual property law, with specific concentration on patent issues in electrical, material science, and computer technologies.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Bemben was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for nearly 6 years. He examined utility, PCT, and reissue patent applications in a wide range of electrical and computer technologies including: point-and-shoot digital cameras, SLR cameras, camera phones, smart phones, image processing hardware and software, motion capture systems for animated movies, optics, medical devices (e.g. endoscopes), and car navigation systems. He has also answered appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

As a graduate student in electrical engineering, Mr. Bemben studied VLSI design and semiconductor fabrication. His research conducted at Virginia Tech’s semiconductor cleanroom resulted in his thesis: Development of an Advanced Semiconductor Laboratory.
