Claudia W. Stangle
Member Ms. Stangle specializes in the areas of trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, false and comparative advertising, Internet law (including cybersquatting and domain name disputes), trade secrets, trademark and copyright licensing, right of publicity/privacy, and trademark acquisitions and divestitures. She represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including, consumer goods, insurance and financial services, pharmaceuticals, and industrial products. Ms. Stangle has significant experience in complex inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), has represented clients in federal courts around the U.S., and has won over fifty ICANN proceedings relating to domain name dispute matters for her clients. She has experience drafting pleadings, discovery motions, summary judgment motions and has engaged in different aspects of discovery, including taking and defending depositions, attending court calls, settlement conferences with judges, and working with damages experts. She has also participated in patent infringement litigation. In addition to her litigation and dispute practice, Ms. Stangle has extensive experience in trademark counseling. She has counseled clients by providing search advice and protectability opinions regarding domestic and global trademark availability. Moreover, Ms. Stangle has significant experience in trade dress matters, from disputes in the U.S. and internationally to registration of colors, containers and shapes with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She is responsible for supervising large-scale and international assignment and other change of ownership recordal projects. She is skilled in due diligence review and analysis for mergers and acquisitions in both the U.S. and foreign, trademark, copyright and domain name portfolios. Ms. Stangle is active in the International Trademark Association (INTA), for which she has served on a committee since 2006. She is a member of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago and the Chicago Bar Association. She has been a guest lecturer on trademark law at DePaul University, College of Law. - Lincoln Financial Advisors Corp. v. Sagepoint Financial, Inc. f/k/a AIG Financial Advisors, Inc. (N.D. Indiana 2009). Successfully defended defendant in a Motion for Preliminary Injunction where the marks “SagePoint” and “Sagemark” were at issue, including preparing witnesses and brief.
- Concord Brands, et al. v. Taste of Nature, Inc. (N.D. Ill. 2007). Represented Defendant in trademark action relating to candy; case settled prior to trial.
- American International Group, Inc. v. American International Holding LLC (D. Colo. 2006). Represented Plaintiff in trademark action relating to insurance and financial services; case settled prior to trial.
